Our First Near Miss

Before I headed to  bed last night, I said goodnight to Micah and reminded him that breakfast would be at 7:15.

When he hadn't appeared by 7:20, I went down to his room to make sure he was almost ready.

No such luck.

He forgot to reset his alarm from yesterday, when he didn't have to get up until 8:30.

GET UP! HURRY! I exhorted.

You've only got about 20 minutes until the bus comes!

On one hand, I'm glad he made it to the road in time, because it would have been very hard to make him walk like I threatened. (and he would have either had to walk or wake up his Dad on his day off and try to sweet talk him into providing a ride, because I said I wouldn't drive him if he missed the bus)

On the other hand, I'm a little sorry he made it with a few minutes to spare. It might have been good for him to have had to run a little to catch the bus on its way by. As it is, there's a good chance that this will seep into his little adolescent mind and he'll come out of his first sleep-in experience with  the irrefutable knowledge that he can indeed be out the door in 20 minutes... therefore, why get up any earlier?!

Ah, well.

He made it.

That's the main thing today.

  1. Ummmm, I hate to tell you this, but he's a teenager. When I was in high school I got up at 8:15, and had time to walk (ok, it was only a couple of blocks) to school for 8:30 classes. Now I get up at 6:00 so that I can be at work by 9:00 . . . :(
