In The Good Ol' Summertime

Back in the day, Labour Day weekend was for picking potatoes and cleaning up the garden. It meant several hours of following Mom through the potato patch putting the spuds in bags as she dug them up. We might have had to do some digging as we got older, but if we did I've blocked it out.

Labour Day was just that- for labour.

I kind of like the better new summertime best.

For example... after hitting the sack around 8:30 last night and being asleep by 9:00 or so, I slept until about 9:00 this morning, and after falling back to sleep, I didn't really wake up until about 10:00. Well, it's nearly 3:00 pm, and I can't say that I feel fully awake even yet, but I was out of bed by 10:15.

Can you say "Lazy Bum"?

It was good. If I felt more awake now, I'd even say it was delicious.

As it is, I can 't feel badly about such a long lie-in, because I must have been extremely over tired to sleep so long. I only woke up twice in the night, and wasn't awake for more than 15 minutes at a time. I even fell back to sleep when the duck shooting started at 6:00 am. And 7:00. And 8:00.

Probably a good start to the Back to School week.

Have I mentioned that tomorrow is our last first day of school? High school, at least.

But that's another story, and I need to go get myself ready to hit the other city. We're going to round out Labour Day with a trip to Red Deer to fetch Micah from the bus depot.

Happy Labour Day to all y'all.

See you tomorrow for a sober version of the back to school happy dance of joy.
