It's Not You, It's Me

Yesterday I was quite taken aback and even dismayed when I checked the messages on our phone.

There was one from my mother to tell me that the hospital had called to give her a date for the surgery she's been waiting sixteen months for, so they might not be able to come for Christmas after all.

I thought to myself, "MOM! We just talked about all of this! How can you have forgotten?!"

I checked when the message had been left. It gave the time and date, and I glanced at the calendar above the phone... two days ago, on the morning of the day we spoke.

As this was processing, I remembered that, indeed, her first words when I answered the phone to talk to her had been, "Did you get my message?"

Yeah.

Not my mother who's losing her mind...
