The Heat Is On

Yesterday my flu was on the move. It started to drift south to my upper respiratory tract.

By bedtime I was not looking forward to another night of explosive coughing fits on the couch.

So, I took action.

Drastic action.

Heating Pad, Vick's Vaporub and Drambuie action.

I started with the Vaporub- that familiar, mentholated, eucalyptus oil, almost hot, but air-hitting cool ointment.

Cover this with a towel folded bandana style over my chest, pinned at the back, around my neck.

Next, position the tissue box on the floor by the bed, within arm's reach and plug the heating pad into the outlet closest to my side of the bed to get it warming up.

Next measure out a shot of Drambuie liqueur.

Drink the liqueur.

Get into bed, and press the warm heating pad to the chest, over the bandana towel. Hold firmly, supported by a pillow. The pillow has dual function: helps keep everything in place, and provides a place to hide your face for coughing, thereby giving you the illusion that you are not, in fact, waking your husband up every time you start violently shaking the bed while trying to force you brains out of your skull through your eye sockets.

Heat within.

Heat without.

I think it's a little better this morning. Still coughing, but it doesn't feel as tight as it did yesterday.

Time to go refill my teacup.

And put on a sweater.

  2. Yes, get better soon.

I'm sorry I had to laugh out loud when I read the eyesocket part. I've totally been there and know the feeling! :)
