Mma Ramotswe On Drinking Tea:

"... That was part of being a woman, she thought; one never reached the end. Even if one could sit down and drink a cup of bush tea, or even two cups, one always knew that at the end of the tea somebody was waiting for something. Children or men were waiting to be fed; a dirty floor cried out to be washed; a crumpled skirt called for the iron. And so it would continue. Tea was just a temporary solution to the cares of the world, although it certainly helped. Perhaps she should write and tell Aunty Emang that. Most problems could be diminished by the drinking of tea and the thinking through of things that could be done while tea was being drunk. And even if that did not solve problems, at least it could put them off for a little while, which we sometimes needed to do, we really did."

From "Blue Shoes And Happiness" by Alexander McCall Smith.

  1. You really are missing your tea, aren't you?

  2. And I don't know if it's the sight of the cows in the field over yonder giving inspiration, but I've been reduced to drinking milk with my peanut butter & jam toast in the morning. MILK! Good grief. What has become of me?!

  4. So, you don't like coffee then?

I'm sure that sitting and thinking over coffee is almost as good as tea. at least for putting things off.

I'm just about through Miracle at Speedy Motors. Love these books.

  5. So have you tried rooibos/red bush tea for yourself yet ? It's what I drink in the mornings, because it's got more of a kick than fruit/herbal teas, but doesn't need milk, which I try to avoid.

It's supposed to have lots of health benefits - low in tannins etc, but I just like the taste. After 6 years of drinking it I am nowhere near as chilled out as Mma Ramotswe !

  6. See? I was telling you rooibos the other day...it's an herbal tea with a strong flavour.

I can mail some to you if you want, just to try...
