I May Be Down But I'm Not Flat As All That

(from the "Take Back Your Mink" song in Guys & Dolls)

Randall's been  going around with a "we're all tired and depressed out here in The Field" mentality lately, and while I'll admit that I've been a little discouraged by the 5:00 pm black-as-pitch of the time changed evening, it's not that bad.

I'm still overwhelmingly tired, which may or may not have something to do with the distended lymph node on the back of my neck, and may or may not have something to do with my iron levels, and may or may not have something to do with being middle-aged and just needing to go to bed earlier in a consistent way.

We have had some very busy weeks and I don't expect that busy-ness to slow down very much as we slide up to Christmas, but it's mostly been good busy as opposed to "why the heck did I think this was a good idea" busy.

I haven't written for a week because there's just not been anything very interesting to write about. No funny new moves to report.  No pithy adolescent sayings or venerable wisdom to be had.

Just life.

Still in The Field, and still, for the most part, enjoyable.

I think it's just that we've passed the one year mark, so all the "firsts" are done and I know what to expect as far as winter and year two go. I'm settling in, and there's good and less good that goes along with it.

So, worry not, dear ones. I'll keep muddling through.

And no matter how dark and cold it gets,

I've got my love to keep me warm.

  1. Glad to hear it!
I know how you feel about this darkness so early...the Christmas decorations outside help to fend off the darkness and make one smile.

  2. That's why I keep nagging Randall to dig them out! He buried them at the back of the storage cupboard. Silly man :)

Candles are a good darkness fighter too. I should get the candles in the windows again. Maybe tomorrow.

  4. What... you think I'm overly optimistic or in denial or something? Maybe tomorrow I'll even cook real food instead of trying to throw the leftovers at
    you.

  5. Well Lauralea, if you at least have the decorations in view, it gets one motivated. Ken's bringing ours from the basement today:)

Don't you just love that rendition with Judy Garland!!! Sinatra is pretty good too though...
