Our Quarterly Furniture Shuffle Is Pretty Much Complete

Spring... autumn... and once or twice in between we tend to get into furniture moving mode.

At least, I  do, and so Randall does by default.

This week has been happily busy. I was going to write about it last night, but just when I got ready to hit the "publish this post" button, my computer decided to take a break from the Internet, so I gave it up as a lost cause.

Cool rainy weather sets off a nesting instinct in me, I think. That and the necessity of getting ready for out of country company this weekend has seen me cleaning the bathroom cupboards and switching the tables around and rearranging the kitchen furniture in front of the fireplace.

I've been baking and cooking too. The weather is definitely to blame for that.

Monday morning I was up before the masses making peanut butter muffins from the Kraft "What's Cooking" magazine. I ended up with peanut butter & banana, chocolate-peanut butter, and peanut butter and jam muffins. (one recipe, divided three ways) Very yummy.

Yesterday I hacked off a couple of rhubarb stalks and made a rhubarb-apple crisp with a very nice crumble topping.

Today I made two loaves of multi grain bread, a large and a small rhubarb pie and a delightful lemon lentil soup for supper.

Tomorrow I have to get groceries so the possibilities are endless :)

Right now I'm thinking about giving the fireplace thermostat a little nudge and settling in there with a book and a cup of hot tea.

Something cosy like that.

  1. If ever you need to "shuffle" and bake at someone else's home...I gladly offer mine! :)

  2. A couple of weeks back we had a village produce show. One of the judges was commenting on making a crumble. He suggested that the fruit should be cooked first a little, then allowed to cool and skin over before adding the crumble and returned to the oven. The reason was to prevent juice from the fruit entering the crumble topping and making it slimy. He demonstrated from the contestants crumbles those who had got it right, and those who had not.
