I'd Be Singin' In The Rain,

But it's late and the air blowing through the window makes me think it would be very chilly.

But I could be singin' in the rain, because there's a thunderstorm happening.

There's lightening, but the thunder isn't very loud so the storm must be far away.

This is a good thing as Micah was having a very hard time getting to sleep, and I'm afraid that if he's awakened by thunder and lightening I'll end up sharing my bed with him.

Ick.

It's not that I don't like the children, but I've never been one to let them sleep with me when their father is away.

I've always considered extra rolling over room as one small compensation for being left behind when he got to escape our every day life.

I have friends who would let their children take it in turns to sleep with Mommy when Daddy was away, but I didn't like to.

It could be that he was never away for more than a couple of nights at a time, and even when we only had 3 children it had the potential to become just one more schedule to maintain... no dear, you got to last time, it's his turn this time... no, honey, I'm sure it's not your turn.... blah, blah, blah.

Easier to be a cranky old bat and make everyone sleep in their own beds.

And once again it's 1:00 in the morning, and I'm sitting at the computer.

Don't know why.

...there's no stars up in the sky, stormy weather, since my man and I ain't together, it's rainin' all the time...

Oh great.

There goes the thunder.

Very loudly.

Wait for it...

So far so good... all quiet on the Eastern front...

It is raining.

The wind is blowing through the open window quite coldly.

The rain is coming down very hard.

In sheets.

I like it.

But somehow, rain in the air always reminds me of camp.

And so, at just past 1:00 in the morning, I'm sitting here, getting cold fingers and toes, watching the pavement of 4th Street turn into a glistening river, listening to the rain fall through the leaves and run down the gutters, smelling that fresh- air- rain smell and I'm wondering

Was it never sunny there, or what?

  1. Leo and I spent many nights apart when the kids were growing up. I, too, did not usually encourage them to come and join me. Maybe that was selfishness on my part but I liked to stretch out when Leo was gone. So, if they were terrified, they came and stayed, at least till I could carry them back to their own beds, cause I would be awake trying to avoid their little flailing arms and legs!

  3. yeah, yeah. went out in my robe and my pajamas (!) to make sure the downspouts were doing their thing. Actually, I went out because from the kitchen window I could see that the spout behind the garden hose had been knocked down when the boys were having their water fight so I went out to set it back up.

If that isn't love, you old worry wart....
