Great* Start To The Weekend

(*I haven't discovered how to put italics in the "title" yet, but the word "Great" should be italicized to denote extreme sarcasm)

Randall just left for "Refresh" in Winnipeg. He's picking Hillary up in Saskatoon to join him at the retreat, and Mom is going along for the ride to hang out with her siblings.

We didn't get to bed until after midnight again, but, being the good wife that I am, I got up when the alarm went off at 6:50.

A hot shower, to get everything moving again... long johns and fleece shirt to combat the cold outside... bologna buns made for the man's lunch... fresh cookies and the meat pies I purchased at the Church Ladies' "Country Store" a couple weeks ago in a bag for Hillary... and we're almost set to go.

He goes down to say goodbye to the still sleeping boys.

I go out to start the van so we can go across town to pick up the rental car.

The van won't start.

He thinks it's probably the starter.

I get the little red Cavalier going instead.

We're doing well for time. He'll be able to get the car shortly after the place opens at 8:00 and be well on his way by 8:30.

At the bottom of the hill the "check gages" light flashed on.

With sinking hearts we realized that the temperature gage was maxed out.

It would appear that there wasn't enough anti-freeze in the engine and the water froze... NOT a good thing.

We got to the car rental place, raised the hood, poured in a jug of anti-freeze and waited a bit.

He followed me home in the rental car, but by the time we got here the poor engine was steaming. One of the hoses had split.

So.

I'll be phoning our friendly neighborhood mechanic in a few minutes. Take your pick, I'll say. Van starter or Car hose...

At least I don't have to go out again til Sunday.

At least I still have tea.

At least I still have the better part of a pint of cream for said tea.

At least it was grocery week, so we're good to go. (or stay... as the case may be!)

I'm going to go warm my hands around my tea cup now, and clear a space on the table for some pottery carving.
