I Miss The Hum Line

CBC, (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) back in the day, had a couple of Saturday morning shows that I always listened to.

I was a huge fan of "Basic Black".

One of the segments of that show was called "Hum Line".

If you remembered a segment of a song, or a bit of an old lullaby your great-great Aunt Gertrude sang to you in your infancy or if you wanted to know what that music box was playing... or if you had a song stuck in your head and you needed to exorcize it... you could phone the Hum Line, sing your song or play your music box, and Arthur Black, the show's host, and his panel of expert musical friends would try to tell you what it was.

Today I would phone the Hum Line... because this Neil Diamond song has been in my head since yesterday afternoon... and it's starting to get a little annoying...

..."Money talks, but it don't sing and dance and it don't walk, Long as I can have you here with me, I'd much rather be, forever in blue jeans.... Honey's sweet, but it ain't nothin' next to baby's treat and if you pardon me, I'd like to say, We'll do OK forever in blue jeans.... Maybe tonight, maybe tonight by the fire all alone you and I... nothing around but the sound of my heart and your sighs...."

And then it starts all over and goes through a couple more times.... It's like the song that never ends...

Make it stop!

  1. I started reading your blog a few months ago and really enjoy your recipes. I'd love to meet you some day! I've never commented before but the mention of the Neil Diamond song nudged me to respond with something kind of funny. When I was younger I thought the words were, "Reverend blue jeans instead of "forever in blue jeans"

Thought it made sense at the time.
