In My Right Mind?

Last night Thomas came excitedly into the family room;

"This is a test," he said. "Answer these questions:

15 + 6

3 + 56

89 + 2..."

And so on, in that vein with 5 more skill testing addition problems.

"Now," he instructed,  "tell me a colour and the name of a tool".

His face fell a little when I answered, and I asked if I had given the wrong reply.

"Sort of," he said.

Apparently, after answering a series of left-brain, logical math questions, it is normal for one to answer the colour-tool question as from the left brain, with little or no creativity. The normal answer, after 8 or more sums, is "red + hammer".

 I said "red" and "monkey wrench".

Hmm...
