A Toast

Weddings always seem to be all about The Bride.

And sometimes The Mother Of The Bride gets it by association.

Tonight I want you to join me in a toast to The Mother Of The Groom.

Here is a woman who flew halfway across the country and drove back again so that she could be here to help get things ready for her son's wedding.

She is a beautiful, shy woman, who had to go way out of her comfort zone sometimes to be here helping and sharing in the work.

Our children picked a hard weekend, in many ways, to be married.

Local help was either away or fully occupied with their own Holiday company, so we were pretty much on our own.

And I don't know that I could have done it without her.

I am as grateful as I can be for my daughter's new mother-in-law, and my new friend. We've shared an adventure together, and our hard work made a good, good day for our children.

So, join me if you will, and raise a glass-

To Kathy.

The Mother of the Groom.

Thank you.

  1. Cheers to Kathy! And as I was watching your preparations, I was grateful that I'll be the mother of the groom some day because I thought I would be off the hook. Oh well.

Nice work on the dress, by the way.

  2. You and Kathy both did so much. But you made the day beautiful, and both managed to look beautiful yourselves. I know all your hard work was much appreciated. Hope you get some rest now. Talk to you soon! (I think if we get together on Thursday we should have a major celebration for all of the stuff the group members have been through/done these past weeks. What do you say?)
