Dressing For Dinner, Undressing For Breakfast

Oh, don't get excited.

I mean the tree.

YES, I know that before you take the time to put the lights on the tree you should do a quick plug-in-inventory to make sure they're all lit.

YES.

I know this.

But- I guess I thought, "These lights are brand spankin' new. Look! I'm taking them out of the box right now! See? They're all nicely packaged in little bunches."

So perhaps you can imagine my chagrin when, having wound the 300 lights on 2 connected strings all around the 6 foot tree, I plugged it in to discover that a portion of one of the strings was not lit up.

Grrr.

I contemplated rearranging the lights to hide the dark line near the bottom...

But these were new lights!

The 20 minute drive back to the store for an exchange was a consideration...

But these are new lights.

And so,

As Randall's going that way tomorrow, I'll finish wrapping up the packages to be posted,

And then I'll undress the tree.

And put those lights back in their box.

And tape the receipt to the box.

And wait for a new set.

And start again tomorrow night.

sigh

  2. Last year we bought a prelit tree and got it home (I should mention that it weighed about 75lbs) and a section of the lights were burned out. I was so mad I figured we could just turn the burned out section toward our window then suddenly a second section went out so I jammed that tree in the box and took it back to the store. We ended up with a real tree last year. This year we bought another prelit tree and it had a section burned out, so it went back to the store. I FINALLY found a non-prelit tree this year that I like. We bought it and I used our minilights from the tree last year. I plugged them in and tested them and they all worked. I got them on the tree and turned them on. They still all worked. THEN the next day once the tree was decorated I turned them on a section was burned out. Grrrr! I carefully pulled off the burned out strand and carefully put a different string of lights on. They aren't as evenly distributed as they were the first time, but they all work! *sigh* I can feel your pain :)
