My Homesteading Ancestors Would Be Proud

As we anticipate snowmobiling, skating and sledding parties,

We were reminded, by Micah, that Micah has no ski pants.

What to do, what to do.

One option was, of course, to drive to town and look for some.

But the other option was to take up the $5 outerwear remnant I have from Fabricland... or Fanny's Fabrics before they went away, and make some.

Four hours, 2 zippers, a couple of cobbled together pieces of elastic and a rewound bobbin later

Micah has a nice pair of lined wind/weather pants.

Complete with zippers at the bottom.

AND they're black, so they match his new coat.

They're not insulated, but they should keep the wind and wet out.

Very sweet, if I do say so myself.

  1. You seem to work miracles with the stuff you have on hand! Micah - well all of your kids - are very lucky to have a genius for a mother. My mom was like that too. Unfortunately I did not realize it till later when I was trying to sew pants for my own kids.

  2. I wouldn't even think of attempting that feat! A genius, indeed. Way to go, Lauralea. And Micah, be grateful. :)

  5. My Kendal relative was, by all accounts, a Barrister... so who knows how he would have reacted to such creative genius...
