Come Dance With Me

One step forward, two steps back; sideways shuffle, don't lose track. Shuffle, shuffle, now ahead; two steps back then off to bed.

* * * * *

I think the summer has been a weird and wonderful dance.

Weird anyway.

Some days wonderful, but mostly weirdly surreal.

Ten months, give or take a few days, since we moved here.

The Field.

And for the most part, those ten months have been filled with anticipation and exploration.

We've done all the firsts- first Autumn, first Open House, first Winter, first Christmas, Easter, Spring,  Birthdays, Summer, Anniversary...

And now Autumn is once again dancing with the wind, breathing hints of the seasons to come; twirling through the the leaves as the trees bow to their partner.

The nights are so cool.

Cold almost.

And the sun is feeling the pull toward hibernation; lazily slipping into winter lethargy. Shining brightly and hotly when reminded that it's not yet time for Summer to be done, but sluggishly snoozing behind the gray blanket of clouds that the South Wind herds across the sky.

I'm not sure if I'm ready for another Autumn in The Field.

It will take a little more energy- a different energy, to meet Autumn and then Winter as they advance.

And it has been such a long journey toward energy. I'm slowly making headway, but there is still such a long way to go.

I know that it's all about balance. And there has been balance; there have been days of retreat to balance the days of company. Days of laughter to balance the days of sadness. Days of stillness to balance the days of storm. Lazy days to balance late nights.

As my heart takes flight on the wings of the wind, I'll let my spirit soar and dance with the leaves and the bowing trees.

And close my eyes and lean back into the Grace that whistles through the partially opened windows and teases my hair into my face.

  1. Amazing how autumn comes early in Canada - it's still high summer here, though the evenings are shorter now.
