Happy Turkey Day

I started a post this morning, but in the busyness of the day I "timed out" and my deep, insightful thoughts were lost.

It has been a busy day.

And a remembering day.

A U.K. day.

A drizzly, raining, grey skied, cool, Southern Ontario Christmas kind of day.

The kind of day that makes me want to have my favourite Carols from Europe CD playing in the background.

The kind of day that makes pumpkin pie and fairy lights especially appealing.

The kind of day that feels half twilit at mid-day and makes the kitchen seem brighter by contrast.

I am almost ready to host Thanksgiving dinner here tomorrow.

The chores have been done. One of the turkeys has been roasted. The table has been made bigger and the tablecloth has been found in the turmoil that the spare room has become.

I anticipate a good day.

It will also be the first time we've had the gathering at our house in several years. Dad was here, then. And Johanna and Hillary.

With all of us there will only be 9. That will feel a little sad at times.

I've been thinking of Thansgiving days past in Winnigeg, and missing my little people. It was a "tradition" for me to go for a leaf crunching walk with the kids after dinner was cleaned up, while their Dad slept off his turkey. The goal being to just enjoy the crisp autumn air, and crunch all the leaves we could see. I was missing the feel of a little hand clasped in mine and the smells and sounds of Winnipeg in the fall.

I still crunch leaves when I'm out walking, but it's not quite the same.

But, there is much to be thankful for.

And thankful we will be.

  2. I will offer up my young ones for leaf crunching if you feel the need to reminisce.

  3. I'll keep that in mind, Peggy! Do you think they'd want to hold my hand, though?

  4. I went leaf crunching this afternoon with two little hands holding mine - at least until we crossed the street to the grass. It was fun. It was just plain good.

I could pray for grandchildren for you. :)

  5. I could spice up the possibilities and pray for more children.......as opposed to grandchildren!
