Is It Just Me

Or do you also think that a medication containing both a "cough suppressant" AND an "expectorant" is an oxymoron?

Randall picked up some cough stuff for me the other day.

He thought it would be cheaper than another bottle of Scotch.

I've used it before, but had forgotten about its existence.

On the up side, the congestion feels a little less this morning.

On the down side, I think it's because the expectorant side of the Robitussin DM far out lasts the cough suppressant side.

At least I don't feel like I'm going to cough my newly chiropractically adjusted neck out of place as quickly as I would have yesterday.

And the boy is staying at school for lunch so the day is a clean slate before me.

Now, where did I put that motivation....

  1. You probably don't really want to know this.... but an expectorant should help you bring the stuff up. It is to literally help you spit it out (expectorate=spit). The cilia lining your windpipe should move it upward for disposal.

It suppresses coughing by reducing tickling.

Scotch is probably more fun, although when I had my lurgy a few weeks back I went right off the stuff! VERY disappointing, although I'd have done better with Jamesons, as it's smoother and rounder than Famous Grouse (inherited liquor).

Hope you're better soon, and it doesn't drag on for weeks like mine did.

  2. I did know that... thus the pondering, but I still think the concept of "expectorant cough suppressant" is an oxymoron.

I agree. Scotch is more fun. Tastes better and everything.

    I think I AM better today. Hopefully it's not a false positive. : )
