I Exist

As of shortly after noon on this the twenty fourth day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand aught nine, as acknowledged by the Almighty Government of Alberta, being substantiated by my new family Doctor,

I exist.

I have been grudgingly granted a valid (albeit temporary until the permanent one comes in the mail, in 2 or 3 weeks) driver's license.

This gives me proof of identity and proof of residence.

With this proof of my existence I may be granted a Provincial Health number.

I may even be permitted to vote.

And the beneficent bureaucratic bodies that be have decreed that I don't have to jump through this particular hoop again for five years.

Hip hip hooray.

  1. I'm so glad. I was pretty sure that you still existed when I was in Alberta last week. :)

  2. Wow, I wonder if you will simply disintegrate into dust at the end of these five years unless they automatically upgrade you to existence status again before the expiry date. I think we can just go on existing here in Saskatchewan as long as we keep pasting new stickers on our health cards and car plates. Maybe if we just kept doing those things we would exist forever - who knows.

  3. Sounds like the Buckley's Cold and Flu commercial I just watched on TV!
So, Lauralea, you've got five years to change your mind and come back to Saskatchewan.
